School of Pharmacy, RK University successfully organized Two Days national level workshop on ‘Drug Discovery and Design 2023’ sponsored by Gujarat State Biotechnological Mission (GSBTM), Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat and in association with APTI – Association of Pharmaceutical Teacher of India – Gujarat State branch coordinated by Dr. Pravin Tirgar (Director and Professor, HOD- Doctor of Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy). The theme of the workshop is Discovery, Design and Development of biotechnological product in pharmaceutical industry.

Chief Patron of the training programme and Executive Vice President, Shri Denish Patel, Chief guest Mr. Chirag Paleja, President and chief financial officer, Rose finch pharma, Amreli, Dr. Daxa Sakhiya, Guest of Honor, Manager, Gujarat State Biotehcnoglical Mission, DST and Govt. of Gujarat inaugurated the workshop and motivated the participant to gain and utilize the knowledge from training programme on drug discovery and design related to biological product.

Research scholars and post graduate students from research institutes of Pharmacy and bioscience across the Gujarat benefited by this training program. Participants learn hands on session on proteomic and genomic techniques on Day 1 like Polymerase Chain Reactions and Western Blotting Techniques by the Trainer Dr. Vijay Kumar, HOD, Microbiology, School of Science, RK University and Dr. Joydeep Chakraborty, Director, School of Science, RK University.

The participants have great exposure to learn on Day 2 about hands on session on Role of Molecular docking in biotech drug design Software: UCSF Chimera, and Argus Lab by Dr. Anu Manhas, Assistant Professor, Pandit Deendayal Energy University (Former PDPU), Gandhinagar. On day 2 participant got opportunity to interact with expert speakers Mr. BHARAT PAGI, Principal Consultant and Founder at Uddipak Consultancy private limited, Ahmedabad on Expert talk: Emerging Biotech Patent Trends and with Mr. Meghal Mistry, General Manager, Novel Assets, Biosimilars & Vaccines, ZYDUS CADILA, Ahmedabad on Expert talk: Biosimilar: A Decade of learning & Future directions. The participant showcases their research talent in oral presentation competition evaluated by judges Dr. Ashwin Dudharejiya, Dr. Lalaji Baldaniya, Dr. Priya Patel and Dr. Hitesh Vekariya.
